News story: Chartered legal executives eligible to apply for GLS lawyer posts

The head of the Government Legal Service, Jonathan Jones, has approved proposals to afford Chartered Legal Executives the opportunity to apply for externally advertised qualified lawyer roles in the GLS.

The proposals follow an in-depth review conducted by the GLS into its recruitment practices. Chartered legal executives who meet all aspects of the GLS’ eligibility criteria will be welcome to apply for future qualified lawyer vacancies.

The qualified lawyer recruitment campaign conducted by HM Revenue and Customs will be the first open to Chartered Legal Executives.

CILEx President Frances Edwards said:

“There are still some organisations who overlook the full spectrum of lawyers they can recruit, depriving them of practically-trained specialist lawyers. The Government Legal Service has adapted to reflect the modern ways that lawyers are educated, and I am grateful to Jonathan Jones and the entire Government Legal Service team for their work which will broaden opportunities for CILEx lawyers”
