Press release: Mansfield husband and wife duo sent to jail for helping themselves to company’s money

Robert Jones was also convicted and sentenced for removing an additional £10,000 in funds from the company’s bank account and £366,666.08 in stock and perjury. The offences occurred between July and November 2010. They were both disqualified from being directors for 7 years.

Robert Jones had acted as a shadow director of Armston Developments Ltd trading as a garage and car sales business known as Spectrum Motor Company in Mansfield and Amanda Jones as a director of the same business.

The fraudulent removal of funds and stock was made following a transfer by internet banking made by another director from the company account to other company accounts in overdraft. The defendants objected to this, instructed the bank to reverse payment and removed the funds.

When interviewed by the Official Receiver Robert Jones lied that he did not know to whom the company’s stock had been sold following liquidation when in fact he had taken it.

DCIO Glenn Wicks from the Department for Business Innovation and Skills said:

After they had gained control of a motor trade company, this couple fraudulently removed property from the company of by taking cash and the entire stock of vehicles, which was detrimental to their creditors.

Robert Jones told lies about it to the Official Receiver by saying he did not know who the vehicle stock had been sold to, when in fact he himself had received the stock at no cost to himself. These are very serious crimes that are not victimless and the courts will always consider prison sentences when they are dealing with them.
