It is the understanding of NMO that the new version will become a harmonised standard by the 28 August 2015, upon publication of the references in the Official Journal of the European Union, and that the existing version will cease being a harmonised standard on the 20 April 2016, ie there will be a transitional period where both versions can be used.
This new harmonised standard will be of interest to manufactures of non-automatic weighing instruments as through its use Member States, as specified in Article 6 of Directive 2009/23/EC, and Article 12 of Directive 2014/32/EU, on non-automatic weighing instrument, are able to presume conformity with the essential requirements set out in Annex I, of the Directive, in respect of instruments which comply with the relevant national standards implementing the harmonised standards that meet those requirements.
The new standard contains some significant changes from the (current) 1992 version of BS EN 45501, these changes include:
an increase to 10 V/m for the RFI test
the introduction of the conducted immunity test
the introduction of the surge test
additional software requirements
some changes in the tests to be performed during initial verification, eg no Discrimination test and only one Tare test
the introduction of the modular approach, as part of the instrument rather than the entire instrument
